August 1980
Joined USAF - Basic Training at Lackland
AFB, San Antonio, Texas, 3711 BMTS - the same basic training squadron my father
was in 23 years ago.
One thing that I am very proud of is the
service each and every one of my close High School friends made to this
great country of ours. Even though they were middle class, smart
as whip's and often had many opportunities before them, every one of
them choose to dedicate a portion of their life to serving our county.
This was not at a time of war, but was in the middle of some of the
military's darkest days - the pay was horrible, the post Vietnam aura
still hung over us and Jimmy Carter was president... need I say more.
Below is an accounting of how each one of them proudly served in the
years following High School:

Spring 1980
Graduated From
Mitchell High School - Bob, Nancy and myself
celebrate...

A few of many fine
High School memories:
- Wayneric eating a Banana without peeling it (think it's easy? try it.)
- Wrestling a very drunk Bob down in Palmer Park so he wouldn't run off
and get killed, since he was waving around a fake gun
- Bob sitting on top of Ed's house with a wide brimmed woman's flowered
hat on (p.s. drunk)
- Cruising Nevada
- TP'ing everyone
- gaming 24 and over straight
- Being geek before geek was cool
- And many more things that are not appropriate for a public web page :)

Hanging out at the school, in the last
days before graduation (Cory, Wayne, Nancy, Lynda, Jenny, Carla, Brian

Mike and Nancy go to Prom-

Spring 1980
Worked doing assembly Language
programmer for a school district (back before coding was cool - were
talking 8 bit assembly language, ya geeks) as part of a Title IV grant.
December 1979
Family
Driving trip to California.
My biggest memory from this trip was driving down Highway 1, and how
scenic it was.
1977 - 80
WarGamers!!! - I really need to add more
here... the all night gaming sessions, the Gazette article that was done
on our wargaming club, and so much more. While our whole High
School life was not centered on gaming (I mean after all, there were
females around, and for some B(eer) day was an important weekly event)
it did form the core of our social circle and life was as exciting, bad
and good as any movie one could film.
Summer 1979
Worked this summer as a janitor at
Harrison High Schoo
l... cleaning HS kids lockers in summer =
yucky.
Late this summer started working at the
Mall of the Bluffs movie theater, and stayed there until the end of the
year. Good: Free popcorn. Bad: Watching Buck Rogers in
the 25th Century about 50 times.
Fall 1978
Started dating Nancy Perry after she
broke up with Bob Peloso, and she remained my High School sweetheart
past graduation. She was also proof that a WarGaming Dungeon
Master could have a beautiful girlfriend, contrary to the
Stephen Lynch "D & D" song.

Summer 1978
My third summer job, side of road
garbage collection (no, I was not incarcerated) for the City, primarily
along Cheyenne Canyon. I had to quit this job after a couple weeks
as the bus only took me to the base of the canyon.
Next I worked for a Mom and Pop grocery
store next to the old K-Mart at Circle and Airport road, but I quit this
fairly quickly as well... the store owner wanted to pay me under the
table and was not tracking the hours I worked correctly.
Winter 1977
Dated Robin Widmar, but discovered we
made better friends.
Summer 1977
My second summer job, painter and gopher
in a machine shop at Peterson AFB
(yum, smell the paint).
Summer 1976
My first girlfriend, Janet LeBlanc in
the summer before High School - she scared the heck out of me, and I
didn't have a clue.
My Sister Ann, with our dog Rascal -
picture taken somewhere around that time.

My first job, Weed puller extraordinaire
at Evergreen cemetery (really, that was my job, around headstones - at
least every one I worked with was under me)
