December 2002

Our BIG vacation as a family, to Universal Studio's, Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. The majority of our trip was organized by Disney Travel. This was after I had done extensive research to get the best deal, and one web site said always check with Disney themselves, sometimes they have deals that cannot be beat. How true it was. Most of the package was not particularly cheap price wise, but they had a airline deal of 2 for 1 tickets going, which for a family of 6 works out great. This included park hopper tickets for 5 days and 2 rooms at the Grand California hotel. This was a pure theme park trip, had no intention of seeing any other Southern California sites.
 

Our general trip plan was...
Friday 12/6: Drive to Denver and spend the night
Saturday 12/7: AM Fly to Anaheim, PM spend at Universal Studio's
Sunday 12/8: Universal Studio's
Monday 12/9: Drive down to Disneyland Resort, Spend afternoon at California Adventure
Tuesday 12/10 - Friday 12/13: Spend time between California Adventure and Disneyland

On the linked page with pictures I started a rating of various rides, shows and eating places on a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being bad and 5 being very good. This represents the entire family's view, and not just my own.  Didn't quite get it all done!

As a family we decided to visit my mother in California just after Christmas. Tired of driving 3 days to get anywhere, I decided to splurge and fly the family from Denver to California. This is the first time any of the kids have ever been on a plane, so I was hoping it would be a good experience for them. As luck would have it, the plane for the flight was a 747, and even better yet we were bumped up to Business Class, which on this plane is equal to First Class on most airlines. The flight was great and a wonderful first experience for the kids. We landed in San Francisco late at night, and the drive to Aptos was a long one. It was rainy and foggy, and we go to SeaScape Resort around 1:30 at night... Click here for full trip report with pictures.

Remington Pack 224, Den 3 completes the final Webelos requirements, moving on to bigger and better things.  Recognition to the boys in my den who completed 6 years of scouting, starting with Tiger Cubs, then Bobcat, Wolf, Bear, Webelos I and Webelos II.  My final den roster was:

In December of 2000, I had an opportunity to attend a Project Management Conference in Aneheim that was being held at the Disneyland Hotel. Unfortunately, I could not take my family, but I was able to meet my Mom and tour Disneyland. In the end, this turned out to be a scouting trip for my family's Dec. 2002 vacation to Southern California. Here are some scouting pictures :)

This was a weekend gathering at the parent's of Bob Peloso, an occasional semi annual event. Bob was in town for Mitchell High Schools class of 1980's 20th reunion. (which for reasons I'm not sure of, I did not attend). Maybe next time... Pictures from the Picnic at the Peloso's.
